Two groups to same man: Group of Five: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45.; Trio: 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; War Medal. VX9530 A.E.Collins on first five medals, A.E.Collins M.N. on last three medals. All medals impressed. All medals are modern, highly polished late issue types, uncirculated.
Merchant Navy: Arthur Eric Collins, born 1915 at Falmouth, England (later changed to Melbourne when enlisting in AIF); engaged with Australia Merchant Navy at Port Kembla 08Aug1936 as Boy on ship, Port Darwin; engaged at London 27May1937 as Ordinary Seaman on Port Darwin but deserted; engaged at Sydney 07Apr1938 on Nailsea Mann and Disch.01Oct1939; served with AIF from 1939-1942 (see below); engaged at Melbourne 24Dec1943 as Trimmer on Age; engaged at Geelong 26Jan1944 as Able Bodied Seaman on Corio but failed to join vessel at Sydney 25May1944; engaged at Sydney 13Jun1944 on Goulburn and Disch.31Jan1945 at Melbourne; engaged at Melbourne 22Mar1945 and Disch.08Jun1945; engaged at Melbourne 13Sep1945 on Barossa and Disch.03Jan1946 with conduct 'Bad'; then served on various other ships with regular bad reports such as AWL, failing to rejoin ship, bad conduct, drunk on duty.
