Germany, Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, August II, (1634-1666) two thaler, 1655 (65mm;57.11g), Goslar or Zellerfield Mint, HS (Henning Schluter), obv. Duke August proceeding on horseback to the right, reins in his left hand and right carrying a sceptre, attired in armour and plumed hat, rev. the arms of the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel adorned with floral ornature and surmounted by five crested helmets heightened with coronets, the central crest of the dukes of Brunswick and Luneburg consists of a column, surmounted by a crown, between two facing sickles embellished with peacock rosettes, in front of the column is a horse courant left (the heraldic ensign of Brunswick and Hannover)(KM.451.1, Dav.LS.570). Attractively toned, nearly extremely fine and rare thus.
