Germany, Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, August II, (1634-1666) one and a half thaler, 1664 (1-1/2 counterstamped on obverse)(63mm; 43.24g), Goslar or Zellerfield Mint, HS (Henning Schluter), obv. Duke August proceeding on horseback to the right, reins in his left hand and right carrying a sceptre, attired in armour and plumed hat, rev. the arms of the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel adorned with floral ornature and surmounted by five crested helmets heightened with coronets, the central crest of the dukes of Brunswick and Luneburg consists of a column, surmounted by a crown, between two facing sickles embellished with peacock rosettes, in front of the column is a horse courant left (the heraldic ensign of Brunswick and Hannover)(KM.450.1, Dav.LS.77). Toned, good very fine and scarce.
