Germany, Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle, Christian Ludwig, (1648-1665) three thaler, 1648 (71mm;86.3g), Clausthal Mint, HB (Heinrick Bonhorst), obv. Duke Christian Ludwig attired in armour proceeding right on horseback, his left hand at the rein, his right holding a staff or sceptre, rev. ornate circling of fourteen crowned heraldic shields of the Duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle with inner medallion depicting the white horse of Westphalia courant left (the heraldic ensign of Brunswick and Hannover)(KM.195, Dav.LS.146). Slight old tooling in obverse field, toned, good very fine and rare.

Ex Decades Collection.

Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle as a division of Brunswick-Luneburg was centred in Celle, about twenty miles north of the city of Hannover, having been founded in 1524. The last duke died in 1705 and Celle passed to Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover.
