Description

Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade (Q.A.T.B.) badge, in silver (31mm) handmade by W.Pratt, Brisbane Street, Ipswich, 1892-1900, the cross is voided with a piece of red cloth placed behind, held in place by the clip on the back. Very fine and rare.

A forerunner to the Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade (Q.A.T.B.), now the Queensland Ambulance Service (Q.A.S.), was the City Ambulance Transport Brigade (C.A.T.B.). This latter brigade was formed in Brisbane in December 1892 following on from the Ambulance Corps of the Queensland Defence Force. Some of the originators of the C.A.T.B. were members of the Ambulance Corps of the Queensland Defence Force.

The City Ambulance Transport Brigade lasted until about 1902 when it became the Q.A.T.B. and included some country areas. In May 1894 full control was given to a committee of 12 members.
