Germany, medallic box (51mm) in white metal, 1914-1915, inside twelve lithographs, obverse, two soldiers, one German and one Austrian, standing at either side of an oak tree together with the German and Austrian coats of arms, at base the dates 1914-1915 and at right edge the name of medallist, C.M. Schwerdtner, Wien, reverse, two hands clasped over a sword, bordered by a laurel wreath, with legend, GOTT MIT VNS/VIRIBVS VNITIS, inside box are twelve double-sided roundels lithographed by Bertold Loffler with images and numbered 1-12 at top and they depict a soldier leaving home, battles on land and sea and in the air, and the adjoining graves of a German and an Austrian soldier and each scene is associated by number with a poetic text; two additional roundels (not part of the two numbered sequences) are mounted inside lid and base and each has a poetic text within a laurel border. Extremely fine.
