Italy, Chios under La Maona (1347-1566), Filippo Maria Visconti, Duke of Milan and Lord of Genoa (1421-1436), Gold Ducat, (3.27 g), uncertain mint, obv. Doge kneeling left and receiving a banner from St Peter standing right, D. MEDIODANI reading outwardly downwards to right, DVX vertically downwards along the banner and .S.PETRVS outwardly downwards to left, rev. Christ standing facing surrounded by nine stars in a mandorla, SITT XPE DAT Q V PEGIS ISTE DVCT, (Lunardi S 18; Schl pl. XIV, 14, cf. Gamberini 398). Good very fine, rare.
A similar example in CNG Triton XVIII (January 2015, lot 1458) realised US $500.
