China, Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty (1644-1911) or earlier, bronze amulet with peony flowers the ling of flowers, grown mostly in the Kiangnan or south of the river Yangtse (mentioned in history (vide Empress Wu Hou of Tang) as a flower charm with a four flowers placed at right angles as the design, set with cut away field, 63mm, (Zhong guo hua qian No.106, p.30; cf.Schjoth 117, Glover 1761). Toned, fine and scarce.
