Trajan, (A.D. 98-117), an issue in honour of his deceased father, silver denarius, issued 115, Rome mint, (3.18 g), obv. laureate bust of Trajan, draped on far shoulder to right, around IMP TRAIANVS AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, rev. Trajan senior seated left on curule chair, holding patera and sceptre, around DIVVS PATER TRAIAN, (S.3323, RIC 252, RSC 140, BMC 500). Toned, scratches on obverse, otherwise fine, very scarce.

Trajan's Forum featured a temple to the emperor's deified father, which was situated behind Trajan's monumental column. Upon the emperor's death, his body was interred in the base of the column and the adjacent temple was rededicated to the deified ruler.
