Nero, (A.D. 54-68), AE As, Lugdunum mint, issued A.D. 66, (11.10 g), obv. bare head of Nero to right, around IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P MAX TR P PP, countermarked P R on neck of Nero, rev. S C across, Victory flying left holding in both hands shield inscribed S[PQ]R, (cf.S.1976, RIC 543, BMC 381, C.302). Attractive light brown patina, very fine and very scarce.

The countermark of P R was placed on the coinage By C. Julius Vindex and is understood to mean Populus Romanus.
