A.I.F. on first 8223 Sjt. J.D.Tassell. 2 G.Hosp. A.I.F. on second medal, 8223 Sjt. J.D.Tassell. 2 A.G.H. A.I.F. on third medal and 8223 Sjt. J.D.Tassell. Aust. F.C. on last medal. All medals impressed. Very fine - good very fine, the last medal very scarce to AFC.

James Dudley Tassell, accountant, age 28, born at Geelong, Victoria; Enl.16Jul1915 at Ballarat, previous service of 4 years in Senior Cadets; Emb.18Oct1915; posted to 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance at Aerodrame Camp, Heliopolis and then selected to transfer to Royal Flying Corps into No.67 (Aust) Sqn. This was renamed No 1 Sqn Australian Flying Corps, Australia's first complete squadron. On 29Oct1916 transferred to No.68 Sqn AFC, on 17Apr1917 to No.17 Reserve Sqn and then to Royal Flying Corps, England. In Sept1917 promoted to Corporal and posted back to France with No.68 Sqn AFC. In May1918 promoted to Sergeant and 14Nov1918 posted to No.56 Sqn RAF. He returned to Australia 03Mar1919. Awarded Meritorious Service Medal 30May1919. Discharged 08Aug1919.
