Sgt Alfred Samuel Brabham, 4th Field Artillery Brigade; Enl.23Aug1915; WIA 29Oct1917 Belgium; RTA 25May1918; Disch.06Jun1918 (W).

Recommended for the DCM as Bombardier 104th Howitzer Battery on the basis of the following recommendation dated 20Aug1916 but apparently not approved,'This NCO acted as linesman during operations between 30 July and 15 August 1916 during which period he traversed nearly three miles of wire between Sausage Valley and Balentin-le-Petit Wood Op and notwithstanding the heaviest shelling maintained the line. This NCO has been previously recommended by his Battery Commander for gallant conduct in repairing telephone lines under fire at Armentieres.'

Previous recommendation mentioned above not located as was probably not forwarded to higher headquarters for consideration due to limited award allocations at regimental level.

MM: CG No.169 4Oct1917 on the basis of the following recommendation for the DCM raised by Major General N.M.Smyth Commanding 2nd Division 25Apr1917. 'On the morning of April 15th when the enemy made a strong attack near Lagnicourt, Sergeant Brabham rendered valuable assistance in getting guns out of their pits into positions, from which direct laying could be obtained, and then went forward and reconnoitred in a most gallant manner in order to obtain tactical information. Sergeant Brabham has on many occasions shown great gallantry and has rendered consistently most useful service.'

MID: CG No.169 4Oct1917 on the basis of the following recommendation raised 4Mar1917 'General good service. Since arrival in France to the present time, ie, April 1916 to date, this NCO has carried out his work in a most efficient manner. In his capacity as linesman both at Armentieres and Pozieres a great devotion to duty was shown, and his promotion to present rank was creditably won. This NCO's name has been sent in on two previous occasions.'

Together with MID Certificate, wound stripe, artillery badge, photos and research.
