UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE, Browne Medal, 1765, in gold (23ct, 23.2gm, 36mm) by L.Pingo, obverse, draped bust of Browne left, inscription around and below, reverse, Apollo seated crowning kneeling figure with laurel wreath, inscription around and below, edge impressed 'Henry Babington Smith, Trinity College 1884'(BHM 92, Eimer 711, Pingo 52). With case, extremely fine.

Awarded for Greek and Latin Studies, annually in gold from 1774. Sir Henry Babington Smith, 1863-1923, educated at Eton College and Trinity College Cambridge where he read Classics. He later became a senior British Civil Servant.
