This gens was one of the most ancient of Rome, it was patrician and plebian, and is said to have been of Sabine origin. The Reverse type represents the mode of taking an oath amongst the inhabitants of the Italian States, and may refer to an ancestor who took an active part in the close of the third Samnite war in 290 B.C. The moneyer is probably the son of T. Veturius Gracchi f. Sempronianus, Augur from 174 B.C.
