Macedon, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.59 g), Byblos mint, issued 330-320 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, serpent on helmet, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, and ship mast, to left in lower left AP monogram, to right downwards **ALEXANDP[OU]*, (cf.S.6702; Price 3423, BMC 3423a-b [p.431], M.1374). Minor marks, otherwise good very fine.

Ex Collection of Dr. Richard Thompkins, Adelaide in 1980 and was previously from A.H. Baldwin & Sons, London, who in a document included in the lot state it was originally found in Iran, near Persepolis.
