Bank of New South Wales, one pound, emergency issue, issued at Sydney, 15th May, 1893, No.A 070312, hand signed by Manager and entered, watermarked paper, with imprint in centre of bottom, 'John Sands, Sydney', temporary design with 1 within squares in corners, on a rectangular framed ornate tablet with 'New South Wales' on edge, across diagonally in orange 'The Bank of New South Wales', black on white, (Vort-Ronald, p.67-85 on bank, this note listed by Vort Ronald, Australian Private Banknote Pedigrees p.671 and similar note illustrated, Renniks MVR 9). Folds and creases, missing portions of edging on two sides, toned, on left, large tear across half of the note, and many other smaller tears, otherwise nearly very good and excessively rare, the second only example of this note ever offered for sale.

This Bank of New South Wales one pound note is one of the rarest and most important note issues from this Pre-Federation period. It was issued at a time of great banking crises.
