Description
Trench art, WWI brass 75mm shell casings (approx 350mm high), set of two made into vases, one with design, '1914 Roulers, the other with '1918 Dixmude'. Very fine. (2)
Roulers and Dixmude, French words for Roeselare and Diksmude, Belgian cities in the Flemish province of West Flanders. Both cities suffered badly from artillery shelling during the war and by war's end two-thirds of Roeselare had been destroyed and Diksmude had been reduced to rubble.
