Neil McArthur, born 18Jul1879; Enl.24Dec1914 with Otago M.R.; Emb.17Apr1915; to 2nd Otago Infy Regt 29Jul1916; detached to 2 Coy NZ Machine Gun Corps 28Sep1917; four times AWOL; 24Feb1917 charged with falling out of line and discharging firearm without cause; served in Egypt 1914-15, Balkans/Gallipoli 1915, Western Europe 1916-17; WIA 04Oct1917, shrapnel to left shoulder, at Passchendaele; RTNZ 23Apr1918; died of Influenza 24Sep1918 and buried at Riverton Cemetery.
