Trio: Military Medal (GVR type 1); British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 4816 Pte W.C.Burr. 12/Aust:Inf: on first medal, 4816 Pte W.C.Burr 12Bn. A.I.F. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Swing mounted, very fine.

Recommendation: During operations near Hooge east of Ypres, Pte Burr was a member of a raiding party on Celtic Wood on night of 6/7th Oct., 1917. He showed great gallantry and fearlessness in the face of the enemy. On entering the wood he was confronted by a Machine Gun and as the gunner was placing a belt in the gun to fire at him Pte Burr rushed the gun, shot the gunner and captured the Machine Gun.
