World documents, Commonwealth of Australia Series 27 Australian Savings Bond, twenty dollars, issued 30 December 1983 with all interest coupons intact; Banco De Castilla, Madrid, stock certificate numbers 18148 and 18158 for five hundred pesetas each, 1 December 1880, with interest coupons 59-80 intact; USA cheques, all featuring vignettes, Banking House of R.S.Battles, Girard, Pa, April 21, 1890, signed by R.S.Battles; The Canajoharie National Bank, Canajoharie, N.Y., Dec 23, 1893, signed H.G.Perry; The First National Bank of Harrisonburg, Harrisonburg, Va, May 21, 1873, signed Winfield Siggell, affixed two cents Internal Revenue stamp; State of South Dakota, County Warrant of Lawrence County, Deadwood, Nov 7, 1903; Travelers (sic) Insurance Company, City Bank of Hartford, Hartford, Conn., November 9, 1865, signed Rodney Dennis. R.S.Battles, a lawyer, organized the bank in 1859 under the name of Battles & Webster. The latter retired in 1876 and Mr. Battles conducted the business alone until his death in 1904. He was also secretary and treasurer of the Girard Wrench Manufacturing Company of Girard for a number of years and the owner of the Climax Manufacturing Company of Corry, Pa. He was highly esteemed by his fellow townsmen and was one of the most prominent business men in north-western Pennsylvania. Rodney Dennis was Chief Secretary of the Travelers (sic) Insurance Company. He was also President of the Connecticut Humane Society.
