Syria, Seleucis and Pieria, Antiochia ad Orontem, (Antioch), Trajan (A.D. 98-117), AE hexachalkon (6.43 g), struck at the Rome mint in 98-99 at Rome for usage predominantly in Syria, obv. laureate head right around AYTOKPAIC NEP TPAIANOC CEB **G*EPM, rev. veiled and turreted bust of Tyche (city goddess) to right, around KOINON CYPIAC, (S.-, McAlee 500 [p.212], Butcher [p.409, Pl.20, 13], BMC 1 [P.103]). Very fine, dark brown patina with orange earthen highlights, rare.

Ex J.S. Wagner Collection with his ticket acquired in 1984, and Triton XII, 6-7 January 2009 (lot 1267).
