Sydney House, Adelaide, South Australia, ten shillings, Adelaide 18_, No.235, written in signature reserve 'paper money issued by Isaac Solomon in early days of South Australia' (this note illustrated Vort Ronald..Shinplaster..p.107, MVR.fig.26, p.21). Stuck on old backing paper with traces of newspaper 1887(?) otherwise good fine and very rare.
Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 75 (lot 2997) and Sale 60 (lot 3067).
Vort Ronald states these notes were issued by Emmanuel Solomon, a prominent Jewish property owner and were issued in the period 1838-44 (see ADB pp.163-4). Isaac, a brother, was an auctioneer in Adelaide in the early 1840s.
