Van Diemen's Land, Lempriere & Company, four Spanish dollars, Hobart Town, June 1823, No L 100, imprint Engraved by S.Clayton Sydney, entered by C.Boucher and hand signed by T.J.Lempriere, red brown print on white, (note mentioned in Vort Ronald Colonial Currency & Promissory Notes p.89). Right side frayed and torn away otherwise full and nearly fine, very rare being an uncrossed note not used as a court exhibit.

Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 88 (lot 3042) and previously from Sale 87 (lot 3826).

Has been in a frame together with a newspaper photo clipping, as displayed by the owner, a direct descendant of Lempriere, whose family tree goes back to William the Conqueror's time in the Channel Islands.
