Together with original MID certificate named to George Herbert White; Admiralty condolence note with delivery of medals, named to George Herbert White; photo of aircraft.

MID: Supplement to LG 30/9/1941, p5639, to Petty Officer George Herbert White, D/J.82171, H.M.S.Hermes for good services in operations off the coast of Italian East Africa.

George Herbert White from Coverack, Cornwall, was killed when the aircraft carrier, HMS Hermes, was sunk by Japanese dive bombers 20 miles off the coast of Ceylon on 9th April 1942 with the loss of 19 officers and 283 ratings. He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon, UK.
