Low Countries, Netherlands, County of Horn, Philippe de Montmorency (1524-beheaded Brussels 5 June 1568) silver daalder (27.55 grams), St. Martin on horseback left beggar beneath; reverse arms of Montmorency and H, golden fleece surrounds former. Small flan split, fine and rare.

Philip de Montmorency, Count of Horn incurred the wrath of Philip II of Spain by his continual resistance to Spanish rule in the Netherlands and use of the Inquisition. He was tried, condemned as a traitor and beheaded in 1568 with the Count of Egmont in front of the Town Hall in Brussels.
