Description
USA, 1922 Grant memorial commemorative silver half dollar. Brilliant, uncirculated.
In a slab by Smart Collect as MS65. Mintage was 95,055, the number melted 27,650 leaving a net distribution of 67,405. The dates 1822-1922 refer to the centennial of birth of General (later President) Ulysses Simpson Grant, whose portrait adorns the obverse. The Reverse depicts a small frame house at Point Pleasant, Ohio, near Cincinnati, where Grant was born on April 27, 1822. Grant was forced to resign his army commission after the Mexican War owing to alcoholism. Nevertheless, the Republican Party nominated him for the presidency, in which he ran in a campaign which was unrivalled for dirtiness. Once elected, Grant produced a record as one of the worst presidents ever.
