Germany, Brandenburg-Franconia, Albert the Younger of Bayreuth, (1548-1550 and 1553), silver taler (28.52 g), dated 1549, obv. +ALBERT D G MARCHIO BRANDENBV, bust of Albert to left with divided date 15 49 across, rev. SI DEs PRONOBIS QVIS CONTRA NOS, floriated cross and four arms in angles and one at juncture, (D.8969). Very fine or better and rare.

Bayreuth in the northern part of modern Bavaria came into possession of the Hohenzollern burgraves of Nuremburg in 1331. When it was separated from Brandenburg by Friedrich I, the first Hohenzollern elector, it fell to his son Johann. then passed to his brother and to the latter's descendants until the line died out in 1603.
