Description
China, Kwangtung Province, probable modern copy of silver tael, obv. 'Valuable currency Kuang Hsu' in centre, above centre 'made in Kwangtung Province' stylised hats to right and left, below denomination etc. original type issued 1904, diameter 39mm, thickness 3mm, weight (35.73 g), (cf.Kann 932, KM.Pn3 [dates as c.1888]). Delightful gold patination, about as struck, nearly uncirculated.
Ex Alan Jordan Collection.
The original issue is very rare. This piece has an incorrect weight (should be 37.4 g), thickness is correct but its diameter as published by Kann should be 41mm, however the striking is good, it comes from different dies to the published examples. The coin is probably a modern copy.
