Scotland, James VI, (1567-1625), a revaluation of 1578 of 36 Shillings, 9 Pence, by a thistle countermark on the reverse, the countermark of revaluation applied to a 1567 silver ryal or sword dollar of James VI first coinage (1567-1571), (29.97 g), obv. crowned Arms of the Kingdom of Scotland, flanked by crowned I R either side, around .IACOBVS 6 DEI GRATIA REX SCOTORVM, rev. around PRO ME SI MEREOR IN ME, crowned upright sword, to upper right XXX, hand pointing right in upper left; 15 67 across field; c/m: thistle in incuse to left of sword. (S.5472 and Spink p.70 for countermarking). Toned, weak in places as usual, otherwise nearly very fine and rare.
