Regency, sterling silver salver, London, (1813), maker's mark WP (William Pitts), circular shape on four cast feet, the rim covered with cast scrolls and floral emblems, accompanied by four cast busts representing the seasons, the field chased with rococo scrolls, fruit and flower motifs, the centre engraved with a coat of arms of Agar quartering Ellis (for Welbore Alice Agar, Second Earl of Normanton), hallmarked on the base and border, (diameter 66cm, weight 6750g). Extremely fine and rare.

This salver is possibly one of a pair made for the Second Earl of Normanton. A salver of the same description and weight was sold at Christies in 1999 (sale 9242, lot 230), made by William Pitts in 1814. Pitts was a highly regarded maker, producing works for the Prince Regent in the Royal collection and securing large commissions from the leading retailer Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. With research.
