Galerius Maximinus II, as Augustus (A.D. 309-313), base silver argenteus or centenionalis, issued 312, Trier mint, (2.79 g), obv. radiate draped and cuirassed bust to left, hand raised, holding globe in left hand, around IMP MAXIMINVS AVG, rev. around SOLI INVICTO COMITI, Sol in facing quadriga head to left, right hand raised, holding globe and whip, the horses spread two to left and two to right, PTR in exergue, (S.14822, RIC 826, RSC 174). Porous as usual, otherwise very fine and rare.

Ex Elvira Elisa Clain-Stefanelli (1914-2001) collection [as the Demarete Collection]. This experimental denomination contained only 25% silver and was tariffed at 100 to a gold solidus. However it was soon abandoned.
