MSM: Third Supplement to LG 17/6/1918, p7169, 'in recognition of valuable services rendered with the Forces in France.'

89th Infantry Brigade certificate titled, 'An Appreciation of Good Service Rendered' named to 17952 James Sumner, Corporal, 19th Bn The King's (Liverpool) Regt. Circumstances: Conspicuous gallantry in action on night of 31st July - 1st August 1916. He single handled unloaded four mules which had bogged in a shell hole and freed them under heavy fire, with utter disregard to his personal safety. He later on removed a wounded comrade to a place of safety. Witness: 2nd Lt Hague, 2nd Bn Bedfordshire Regt.

Remarks by Lt Col George Rollo, OC 19th Bn The King's (Liverpool) Regt: A fine piece of work carried out under most dangerous conditions.
