Q. Caepio Brutus better known as M. Junius Brutus (c.54 B.C.), silver denarius, (3.69 g), obverse, head of Liberty to right, with LIBERTAS behind, reverse, the consul L. Junius Brutus walking to left between two lictors preceded by an accensus, BR[VTVS] in exergue, (S.397, Cr.433/1, Syd.906); M. Cipius, M.f, (115-114 B.C.), silver denarius, (3.69 g), obverse, Roma helmeted head right, M. CIPI M.F. before, X behind, reverse, Victory in biga to right, rudder below, ROMA in exergue, (S.166, Cr.289/1, Syd. 546, RSC Cipia 1). Areas of flat striking and a few scratches, otherwise toned very fine/good very fine; countermark on obverse, otherwise fine. (2)
The first piece is an issue of Brutus, one of the assassins of Julius Caesar.
