Italy, Lucania, Velia, (c.305/4-293/290 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.17 g), Period VII, Philiston Group workshop, obv. head of Athena to right, wearing crested helmet, ornamented with griffin, **D* above vizor, rev. lion walking to right, pentagram between **F I* above, in exergue **UELHTWN*, (cf.S.454, cf.Williams 440, SNG ANS 1371-2, Hunter 48). Toned, very fine or better, good metal and a scarce mint.
