Sydney International Exhibition 1879, in silver (76 mm) by J.S. & A.B. Wyon stop after CCC, reverse inscribed 'The/Right Hon:/Earl Cadogan/For/Services'. Toned, in original Wyon case of issue, nearly FDC and rare as such.
George Henry Cadogan (5th Earl Cadogan) KG, PC, JP was a British Conservative politician who lived from 12 May 1840 to 6 March 1915. He was the eldest son of Henry Cadogan (4th Earl) and Mary, daughter of Reverend Gerald Wellesley, younger brother of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. Earl Cadogan entered politics in 1868 and was successfully returned as the member for Bath in 1873. On the death of his father shortly thereafter he moved to the House of Lords. He was made Under-Secretary for War in 1875 and Under-Secretary to the Colonies in 1878 by Disraeli. He was Lord Privy Seal (1886-92) and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1895-1902. With research.
