Description
New Zealand, Province of Otago, Will and Probate for Dennis Heenan of the North East Valley near Dunedin, dated 27th September 1867, two large pages, revenue stamp for sixty shillings dated 7 September 1868, includes later declaration by his widow Winifred and illustrated plan of land dated 1890. Very fine and a scarce piece of early New Zealand history.
Dennis Heenan (1790-1868) was born in Ireland and came to New Zealand on the ship 'Mariner' in the fifties. He purchased land in the North-East Valley, living in a fern hut and farming on a small scale. By the end of his life he had amassed large holdings and his will indicates that he had over 330 acres of land to disperse amongst his sons.
