NETHERLANDS, Dockenburg commemorative, undated, in silver (47mm) obverse, arms of Doccumburg (Duccomburg also Dockenburg) with Latin legend translated to, ’If the Lord does not protect the city then the watchman’s vigil is in vain’ (see psalm 127), reverse, twelve line Latin inscription outlining the rise and fall of the port city from its establishment in 248AD by Ubbo, Duke of the Frisians, as a protective port against pirates up to 1582. Nicely toned, nearly extremely fine.
