Sicily, Syracuse, (c.450-440 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.39 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer holding kentron in right hand and reins in both hands, Nike flying right crowning horses, ketos in exergue, rev. **SU*R**AKOSI ON* around to right, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, hair rolled and tucked under diadem, wearing necklace, four dolphins clockwise around, (cf.S.914, Boehringer 559 same dies [obverse 283/reverse 385 these dies], SNG ANS 181 [same dies, rev. re-engraved], ACNAC Dewing 807 [same dies], Pozzi 579 [same dies]). Slightly pitted on reverse otherwise nearly extremely fine and rare.
Ex The Triton XIII Sale, New York, (lot 1031). Boehringer notes only 4 specimens from these dies.
