Guildford Grammar School, (Western Australia), Annual Athletics Sports medal, undated, in silver (44mm), obverse, school shield , around is the legend 'Angl:Apvd.Guildford Schol:Gram:Eccles:', reverse, around the edge, 'Annual Athletics Sports. Go Forward.', in the centre, 'G.E.G.S. / Prize / awarded To', engraved, 'W.A.Drabble / 880 Yds (Open.) / H'cp. / 1919.' Small nick in reverse field, nice original toning, extremely fine.

Walter Alfred Drabble was the son of a retired merchant, Walter D Drabble, who died in 1947. Drabble's Hardware was one of the iconic stores in Claremont. Established in 1885 the business moved into the newly built Drabble Building at 50 Bay View Terrace in 1924. It was a huge wholesale and retail business with storage sheds and a glazing department at the rear. Staffed by experienced tradesmen the store was a meeting place for all the local handymen and it was popular because some of the staff were also players from the Claremont Football Club, 'The Tigers'.
