Lesbos, Mytilene, c.450-330 B.C., electrum hekte (2.550 grams), Bodenstedt dates 357-326 B.C., obv. head of Poseidon to right, in laurel wreath, rev. trident head with scrolls within linear square, (cf.S.4252 [œ600]; Bodenstedt 98a [same dies as obv. a/ rev. a], [dies illustrated enlarged Pl.32, 5]; de Luynes 2562 [same dies], Boston 1732 [same dies, Pl.82], BMC 117, SNG Cop. 328). Light filing on head, otherwise very fine and rare.
Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 66 (lot 3238). $$ Bodenstedt notes eight examples of this type from three obverse and four reverse dies. Almost all examples known are in published collections. Two examples are known from this die combination.
