A.I.F. on second medal, 1366 W.O.2. H.C.Kendall. 8 A.S.C. A.I.F. on third medal; 1366 WO2 H.C.Kendall. 8 A.S.C. A.I.F. on last medal. All medals impressed. Court mounted, last medal with three surface marks on obverse, otherwise good very fine.

There is a replica Bar for a second award attached to the Military Medal ribbon but there is no record of any such award to WO2 Kendall. Warrant Officer 2 Howard Charles Kendall, age 30, motor mechanic and driver, born Liberty, Pittsburgh, U.S.A.; previous service in South African Constabulary 4 1/2 years; Enl.26Sep1914; Emb.22Dec1914; Corporal Driver promoted to Sergeant 27Jan1916; 27Oct1916 awarded MM at Bully-Grenay, Pas de Calais, France; 30Dec1916 Temporary Sgt Maj; 06Jan1917 Coy Sgt Maj; 28Mar1918 WO2; 29Sep1918 to hospital in Paris for anti rabies treatment following dog bite to nose; RTA 05Apr1919; Disch.16May1919. MM LG 27/10/16 p.10487 posn 75, CAG 19/4/17 p.919 posn 98. Recommendation: 'Whilst on duty at Bully-Grenay on the night of 21st Feb 1916 driving a lorry up to within 250 yards of the enemy's trenches under heavy fire with material urgently required for an observation post on an extremely rough and dangerous track during heavy snow and without lights.'
