Private Percy Gwyn Powell, age 25, well sinker of Longreach, Qld; Enl.12Oct1915 11/26th Rfts; Emb.30Mar1916, Brisbane; 02Aug1916 TOS 26 Bn; 26Sep1916 to hospital, syphilis; 28Nov1916 rejoined unit; 08Jan1917 award for offence, France, and again 10Sep1917 and 03Oct1917; 22Jun1917 hospital, syphilis; 24Nov1917 rejoined unit; 21Dec1918 Aust Corps Routine Orders 294, re 11 Nov 1918, France, 'The Corps Com congratulates this man for his gallant actions: On 11th Nov the clothes of a small French child caught fire. Pte Powell rushed to the house clasped the child in his arms and tried to smother the flames with his greatcoat, finally he succeeded in extinguishing the flames by splashing water from the gutter over the child.
