Staff Nurse Edith Mary Rawson Adams, born Norfolk, England; Enl.19Jul1917 AAMC Rfts AIF, previous experience Mildura Hospital, 8 years; Emb.06Sep1917 Melbourne; Disemb.06Oct1917 at Bombay; admitted to Sisters Hospital Colaba and discharged 06Nov1917, then posted to Victoria War Hospital Bombay; posted to Stn. Hpl. Belgaum, India; 24Sep1918 resigned from AIF to get married to Rev.Sidney Fremlyn Streatfield who had enlisted as a padre and had rescued the Union Jack flag from the British Consulate in Ghent, Belgium, on 12Oct1914 just as the last allies were leaving the town in front of the German cavalry; he later took this flag to Winkleigh for use in the dedication of the WWI War Memorial Cross in 1921 at the village church.
