Staff Nurse Ethel Rose Douglas, born Ballarat 1883 was a nurse at Ballarat Hospital where she trained with Edith Popplewell, a survivor of the ’Marquette’ a ship carrying a NZ hospital unit from Port Said and English soldiers sunk by submarine near Salonika and later she was Sister-in-Charge of No 2 NZ General Hospital, Ward VII Walton-on-Thames Hospital; Rose Douglas (as how she referred to herself) was Sister-in-Charge of Medical and Surgical Wards and Operating Theatre; Enl.01Oct1915 in AANS; Emb.12Nov1915 on ’Orsova’ for Middle East with reinforcements for 1AGH at Heliopolis; TOS 1st Aux Hosp 29Mar1916; temp attached to Mil Inf Hosp Shubra 19Jul1916; posted to 13GH at Rouen, France 09Feb1917; to England 16Mar1917; RTA for nursing duties 27Sep1917; rejoined 11Feb1918 to No 8 Section Sea Transport AANS; Emb.02Aug1918 on ’Nestor’; served with No 2 AAH, 3 AAH, No 2 Conv Dep; appointment as Staff Nurse with 1AAH terminated 16Jan1919.
