Corps of Commissionaires, Award of Merit (bronze). 933 L.J.M.Allen 15.2.75 engraved on reverse. Extremely fine.
The Corps of Commissionaires in Australia was formed in 1946 as an independent organisation to employ or place ex servicemen or women. It is based along the same guidelines as the Corps established in UK in 1859. In addition to this award, Leonard Joseph Matheson Allen, of Hawthorn, Vic was awarded the Royal Humane Society Of Australasia (RHSA) silver medal for going to the rescue of two police officers who were struggling and being overpowered by a powerful deranged man whom they were trying to arrest on 29 May 1988 at Hawthorn, Victoria. Together with newspaper clippings, both with photos of Mr Allen and in one he is wearing his Corps of Commissionaires uniform, and a copy of two pages of RHSA Annual Report 1989.
