From a total mintage of only 975 pieces of each metal. Catherine was the second wife of Peter the Great, and as the first female to rule Russia, she paved the way for women to legitimately reign for most of the 18th century. Fair, compassionate, strong and energetic, she continued Peter’s work in modernising the state.
