Peter I ’The Great’, (1682 - 1725), 1725 dated Medal or ’Memorial Rouble’ comprising 50 medals or pattern roubles in golden alloy, 50 medals or pattern roubles in polished pewter and 50 medals or pattern roubles in high grade copper, struck to a prooflike/proof finish in limited quantities, FDC. From a total mintage of only 975 pieces of each metal. Peter was one of the greatest of the Russian Czars, a huge figure who possessed enormous strength, energy and determination. He modernised what was a mediaeval nation, built up St Petersburg (which soon became the new capital), and expanded Russia’s lands, trade and influence.
