From a total mintage of only 975 pieces of each metal. Peter was one of the greatest of the Russian Czars, a huge figure who possessed enormous strength, energy and determination. He modernised what was a mediaeval nation, built up St Petersburg (which soon became the new capital), and expanded Russia’s lands, trade and influence.
