New South Wales mining. The Victoria Cross Silver Mining Company, 1888 (2, consecutive pair), 1890 (2, consecutive pair and a different plate), these named to John Kidd, together with a company receipt dated 1892 for payment of the ninth call on the 1890 pair. Of historical interest, fine. (5)

Famous Australian businessman W L Baillieu and his son purchased the despised Victoria Cross lease as a speculative bargain in 1902 and sold it to North Broken Hill Mining Co in 1904. John Kidd (1838-1919) was a prominent N.S.W. businessman and later member of parliament. In 1898 he was Minister for Mines.
