Lucien Grech others from France to Hanoi (3); Egypt, Port Said; from French Colonies (5); others (11) and a four card letter from and signed by Sarah Bernhardt. Many edge damage and worm holed, some with stamps attached to the cards, generally fair - fine. (69)
Sarah Bernhardt (October 22, 1844 - March 26, 1923) was a legendary French stage actress, and has been referred to as "the most famous actress in the history of the world". Bernhardt made her fame on the stages of Europe in the 1870s, and was soon in demand in Europe and the Americas. She developed a reputation as a serious dramatic actress, earning the nickname "The Divine Sarah." She was also the mistress of Professor Samuel Jean Pozzi of great numismatic fame who she met in 1869 and even after ceasing being lovers they remained devoted friends until his death in 1918. Lot includes a recent newspaper article on her.
