A.I.F. on first two medals, William Leslie Mitchell on last medal. All medals impressed. Son-in-law, Group of Four: 1939-45 Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australian National Medal. First three medals unnamed, Michael Russell on reverse of last medal. Impressed. Very fine.

Pte William Leslie Mitchell, Blacksmith's Striker, from Newcastle served four years in Senior Cadets, Enl.19Nov1915, Emb.01May1916, WIA 22Jul1917 at Camiers in France, multiple GSW, to Brigade Signal School 09Nov1918, to Civil Training School 21Dec1918, RTA 11May1919. His brother, Sgt Henry George Mitchell Enl.19Jan1916, 35 Bn, Emb.01May1916, KIA 29May1917 France. William Mitchell joined the New South Wales Police Force rising to rank of Inspector. Michael Russell served with the British Army, migrated to Australia and joined the Commonwealth Police and at one time was involved in VIP security.
